—

Abdallah remained silent and completely ignored Abdulhakim until they got home.

Angry, he entered the house. Their mother wasn’t in the living room; only his sisters were there. Among them was Zannura, who was very close to him. As soon as she saw him, she exclaimed, “Oh, welcome, my brother!”

He shot her a glare, his face clouded with anger, and walked past her, heading straight upstairs to their room.

She stood frozen, confused and hurt. He had never treated her that way before.

Mubina, on the other hand, didn’t even acknowledge him because she never interfered in his matters. She was very close to Abdulhakim, and when she saw Abdallah's reaction toward Zannura, she laughed and teasingly said, "May Allah increase it!" ???? But she said it quietly, not wanting Zannura to hear because they had their occasional arguments, though they were always playful.

Zannura sat down on the chair, feeling uneasy. She was disturbed by Abdallah’s reaction. "Did I do something wrong to him yesterday without realizing it?" she wondered.

When Abdulhakim entered the house, she stood up charmingly and said, “Oh, big brother, I was waiting for you! I need to ask you something. What happened to Abdallah? I saw him in a strange mood.”

His face was also serious as he responded, “Why don’t you ask him yourself? I don’t know.”

He walked past her and was about to go upstairs when Mubina greeted him, “Welcome back!”

He responded with a smile and even asked about their mother.

Zannura frowned in annoyance. "Why does he always ignore me?" she thought bitterly. “Does he still not realize that I love him? Maybe it's time I tell him outright and put an end to his obliviousness!”

Upstairs, Abdallah was lying on his bed when Abdulhakim entered. He didn’t even look at him. Abdulhakim finished what he was doing and left without a word.

Abdallah kept tossing and turning on his soft mattress, his mind occupied with thoughts of Aunty Maryam’s conversation.

But what could he do with that rude girl, Ni’ima? It was better to remain unmarried than to have a wife like her.

He picked up his phone and dialed his lover’s number—Lowest.

After two rings, she picked up. Since she was from Kano, she spoke a bit of Hausa, though they mostly switched to English.

They spent two hours in a deep love-filled conversation. She told him she would soon visit Nigeria and stay with an uncle in Kaduna, but she was mainly coming for him because she wanted them to get married.

Abdallah agreed and promised her marriage.

After their call, he began thinking about how to tell his father about Lowest. It was better to introduce her to his family now so they would stop pressuring him about marrying someone else.

“Hmm… do you think this is a good solution, Abdallah?”

"If only you knew what’s about to happen to you, you wouldn’t be so eager to propose marrying a Christian!" ????????????

—
